Oglethorpe County Rotary Club

Chartered April 1992

The Oglethorpe County Rotary Club is an organization of business and professional men and women united in the bonds of friendship and dedicated to service.

Since its inception, the club has been involved in the community providing help and leadership in many areas.

The Oglethorpe Rotary Club utilizes the traditional Avenues of Service as outlined by Rotary International.

Rosanna Ames was recently chosen for the 2009 Oglethorpe County Rotary Club Jean Harris Award. Shown presenting the plaque to Rosanna is Cary Fordyce, president of the local club. This distinguished award honors the efforts of non-Rotarian women who have made a significant contribution to the development and progress of others in their communities.<br /> The Award was given to Rosanna in recognition of the value and appreciation of her volunteer efforts on behalf of the Oglethorpe County School System and our community. Over a two year period, she volunteered her experience and professional expertise in the field of public relations and, as a result, her work has improved communication within the school system and with the community at large.

Rhonda Mills (R), River of Life Chiropractic in Crawford, became the newest member of Rotary in April 09 and is being pinned by her sponsor, Melanee McGee.

Michal Hoppe, GRSP student from Poland, spoke to the Club on April 3, 2009. He is 23 years old and was born in Gdansk in Poland. Last year he finished his bachelors degree at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology University of Gdañsk - Medical University of Gdañsk in biotechnology. Last July, Michal came to Georgia to study at UGA under the GRSP Program. His host Rotary clubs are Classic City, Oconee, Winder, and Oglethorpe. Throughout the year he did research in a lab at the Biochemistry Faculty at UGA and worked with human cancerous cells studying the human telomerase enzyme. Additionally, he studied spanish and french, played volleyball and did boxing. Shown with Michal is his host family, Dr. Jeff Welch.

Paige Lowe was selected as the Student of the Year at the OCHS Honor Nights Academic Awards Program. She was also named Salutatorian. Paige received a certificate and a $1000 Scholarship from Club President, Cary Fordyce.
